Another week, another fabulous blonde to feature on our Signature Style Series! This time we are looking so forward to introducing you to Sydney Carver, who runs her own blog called Summer Wind. Just looking at her she clearly reminds us of summer – light and airy!

summer wind 3

EMc: How do you carry your signature style into all aspects of your life be it home decor, entertaining, or fashion?

SC:  I consider myself to have timeless, classic taste with a bit of a girly and preppy twist. In fashion, I love a little black dress, a simple ballet flat, and subtle diamond stud earrings.

I think in regard to my decorating and entertaining style-it mimics my fashion tastes in that I like very traditional, classic pieces. I love decorating my home in blue and white just as much as I love dressing in it! And entertaining is all about making others feel comfortable and I’d like to think that my outfits are comfortably cute too!

Summer Wind 2

EMc: What is your personal definition of “signature style”?

SC: I think everyone has a ‘signature’ style and they might not even realize it! It can be something as simple as wearing the same special jewelry every day or sticking to a certain color palette or wearing dresses more often than anything else.

summer wind 5

EMc: Give us three words to describe you. Why did you choose these three words?

SC: This is a tough one! Optimistic, hard working, and fun! I’m always looking at the glass half full and looking to have fun in all aspects of life, but that’s not to say I’m all play and no work. I love working towards a goal and getting things done. I’m a go-getter and really like to feel accomplished and successful in any area of life!

summer wind 20

EMc: What are three of your most prized pieces that you think fully represent your signature style? This could be a piece of furniture, jewelry, art, etc.

  • My Cartier tank watch. I wear it every single day. I worked hard to save up for it and love the classic, timeless design.
  • My Donald Robertson Jackie O framed artwork. This was one of my first pieces of artwork that I ever purchased. I might be Donald Robertson’s biggest fan and was thrilled when he did his signature painting with gaffer tape and other household items featuring Jackie O. I’m a huge fan of Jackie O so to have his work and Jackie O all in one, it’s definitely a favorite!
  • My antique radio cabinet from my great uncle. My parents had a set of antique radio cabinets that they were gifted for their wedding from my great uncle. They are gorgeous mahogany wood with intricate detailing. My parents gave me one and I turned it into a bar cabinet. It looks like a gorgeous, antique piece of furniture, but when you open the doors, you find allllllllll of the things for cocktails!

summer wind 22

EMc: What is your best tip to encourage others to find and develop their own signature style?

SC: I definitely suggest trying new things and being open to anything! Even just trying a new nail color can really invigorate your outlook and revamp your style. I also think it’s important to truly love the pieces you are wearing and as long as you love what you are in, you’ll always feel comfortable!

Bright colors, a beautiful smile, and never an absence of pink. What does this define? Our latest signature style series highlight, Amy Littleson of Amy Believes in Pink! This vivacious blonde knows a thing or two about color and pattern mixing – something we can’t get enough of. We can’t wait to introduce our readers to this stylish girl!

Tropic Like It's Hot

EMc: How do you carry your signature style into all aspects of your life be it home decor, entertaining, or fashion?

AL: I like to add a pop of color and sparkle to absolutely everything I do– and that’s how I carry my signature style into all aspects of my life. I decorate with sequins and tasseled throw pillows, entertain with hysterical cocktail napkins and bubbly champagne, and dress like I am ready for a cocktail party or a bohemian beach getaway. In all of these aspects, you can find my signature style of bright color, glittery accents, and bohemian glam.

Senior Dorm Room

EMc: What is your personal definition of “signature style”?

AL: Signature style is the mark you want to leave on the world and how your personal brand expresses itself.

Amy129

EMc: Give us three words to describe you. Why did you choose these three words?

AL: Creative, organized, and enthusiastic! I am constantly in an entrepreneurial mindset and my biggest passions happen to all be creative– writing, photography, and styling. But at the same time, I reign in my free spirit by being as organized as possible— I’ve found that that’s the only way to get it all done. Finally, I think that my over-the-top excitement for my pursuits and my habit of celebrating every little thing leads me to be very enthusiastic in everything I do!

I Believe in Pink Minted Graduation Announcements and gifts_-6

EMc: What are three of your most prized pieces that you think fully represent your signature style? This could be a piece of furniture, jewelry, art, etc.

AL: This is so difficult to decide, but I’d have to say that these three pieces represent my style best:

1. The diamond necklace I wear every day– my dad gave it to my mom when I was born, and they then gave it to me when I graduated high school. It’s the epitome of  a classic staple piece and constantly reminds me of their love.

2. My cork boards in my bedroom– I am constantly collecting inspiration to pin on my cork boards. Whether they be saved notes, magazine pages, old photos, etc., I look at these pin boards every day for a burst of energy. I can’t wait to redo them for my new apartment.

3. My bar cart– Always decorated for the next holiday or party, my bar cart has seen a lot of good times and it a true representation of my celebratory personality! A recent addition was this Emily McCarthy bamboo napkin holder…

Amy-Littleson-from-I-Believe-in-Pink-PB-Teen-gift-guide-bedroom-Christmas-decor-25

EMc: What is your best tip to encourage others to find and develop their own signature style?

AL: Take a moment to think about what makes you happiest above all, and what you feel most confident in: that is your signature style. (For me it was celebrating life and hot pink– and thus I launched I Believe in Pink! 😉 )

Meet the stunning Liz of Pure Joy Home! She is as bright as she is beautiful. We love her simple coastal style, and you’ll notice right away we feel a strong connection to her as she counts pineapples and rosé amongst her favorite things. A girl after our own hearts. Let’s learn more about this joyful blogger.

_P8A3336 (1)

EMc: How do you carry your signature style into all aspects of your life be it home decor, entertaining, or fashion?

LJ: You can usually find me in light colors, pretty florals and flowy forms, and in my home everything is very light and bright with pops of color in the art and accessories.

BlueWhiteStripedSkirt-107

EMc: What is your definition of signature style?

LJ: My definition of signature style is the style that represents who YOU are. So, for me, it’s that light and airy, beauty style that is reflected in my wardrobe and how I decorate my home. i.e. the pineapple wallpaper I just put up in Grace’s room (insert pineapple emoji). I hope my “signature style” makes people smile and happy 🙂

OverallShorts-100 Suitcase-103

EMc: Give us three words to describe you. Why did you choose these three words?

LJ: Joyful, except when my 4 year old asks me when I’m in a bad mood! But, most people do say that about me, I like to make those around me feel good and I hope I rub some positivity and kindness off on them in that way.

Dreamer. I’m a dreamer for sure, I always have been. I dream all the time about how I want things to be or where I want my family to be. My current dream is for us to pack up and leave for a year. I want to go to an island like Maui and live in a tiny beach house where nothing matters but catching waves and eating shaved ice.

Doer. I’m a doer, when I dream it, I make it happen with a whole lot of hustle. You better believe we’ll be spending that year on the beach soon! And hey, I did dream up my blog one day while sitting at my boring corporate job… and look!

PomPomDress-110

EMc: What are three of your most prized pieces that you think fully represent your signature style? This could be a piece of furniture, jewelry, art, etc.

I have this big Hermes scarf hanging above my desk in my office. It’s so beautiful and such a statement piece. It was given to me by my late friend who believed in me, and it represents the art of fashion, I love it.

My straw hat collection. I LOVE my straw hats and I’m definitely a hoarder of them. They remind me of the beach and I love to wear them, and see them hanging all over our walls.

My beach cruiser. again, take me to the beach someone PLEASE! Brian, my husband, gave me this adorable aqua beach cruiser and it’s my favorite toy!

FloralBlouse-106

EMc: What is your best tip to encourage others to find and develop their own signature style?

LZ: Follow your heart and wear what speaks to you. I was in Anthropologie the other day and this cute little embroidered top was literally screaming at me from across the room. I couldn’t see anything else but that one top, so I tried it on and bought it. Wear what makes you happy 🙂

If you made it this far, thank you so much for reading! Come visit me on my blog, Pure Joy Home, and follow me on Instagram!

This week, we got to know someone so fun and stylish – we truly understood why she calls her blog “Holy City Chic”. Meet Megan Stokes. “Based out of Charleston, SC, Megan’s featured content ranges among her love of style and beauty, home interiors, travel, and all things that celebrate her lowcountry lifestyle.

Megan’s work has been featured by Nordstrom, House Beautiful, Country Living, Style Me Pretty, and more. She is also a contributor to The Everygirl, a Forbes-listed website driven to inspire career-driven women.” Let’s get to know her a little bit better!

HARBOUR ISLAND-89

EMc: How do you carry your signature style into all aspects of your life be it home decor, entertaining, or fashion?

MS: I tend to gravitate towards classic pieces and clean lines, whether it’s an outfit I’m picking out or a room that I’m decorating in our home. The older I get, the more I stick to what I know just “works” rather than the crazy fads. For me, that’s interchangeable pieces in flattering silhouettes that are comfortable. I had a baby last year and have pretty much said goodbye to all of my dry clean only blouses and sky high heels since then. (Truthfully, I never really liked them anyway!) More than ever, I like to feel completely and utterly myself and comfortable. That goes for my home, too. I want it to feel lived in, full of love, but classic and fresh. I gain inspiration from our travels… whenever I come home, my wardrobe changes just a bit and so does my decor. After our latest trip to Harbour Island, Bahamas a few weeks ago, I want to only wear linen and white…. and somehow, even more palm branches have found their way into the rooms in our house!

living room feb 2017 topshop-9

EMc: What is your personal definition of “signature style”?

MS: Signature style is knowing what suits you and then you’ve just got to go out there and unapologetically own it!

celadon-5 living room feb 2017-17

EMc: Give us three words to describe you. Why did you choose these three words?

MS: Passionate, because I really put my heart into it. (Whatever that “it” might be.) Learning, because I’m doing that everyday. And faithful.

dining room-7 Easter Sunday at the Beach-17

EMc: What are three of your most prized pieces that you think fully represent your signature style? This could be a piece of furniture, jewelry, art, etc.

MS: 1. My wedding rings. My husband added an anniversary band to my stack last year as a push present. It has diamonds all around it, but one was replaced with an Aquamarine, which is our baby’s birthstone. I love the layered look of my set.
2. Our antique bar. It was passed down to my husband by his late grandfather—old wood on the bottom with a marble top, so it’s classic with a little sass. I just love it.
3. Photographs. I admittedly don’t have many printed and framed, so the ones that I have are awfully important and represent some of my most special moments. I love classic silver frames with a large white mat.

gingham top-4

EMc: What is your best tip to encourage others to find and develop their own signature style?

MS: Step away from your phone and Instagram for a bit. Don’t dress a certain way just because someone you look up to or follow wears a certain something. I love online shopping for the convenience, but I always find my best pieces when I am actually in the store feeling the fabrics and trying them on. Look through magazines and mark which pages speak to you, then go into a store and try on clothes that give you that same feeling. Try on so many things and don’t worry if nothing makes you want to sing and dance. If not, don’t buy it. Buy for quality rather than quantity. I’d rather have five shirts in my closet that make me feel like a princess instead of 50 that don’t make me feel like my best self. Even signature style is always evolving, so take your time and build your wardrobe slowly in a natural way that represents the YOU that you LOVE.

It seemed fitting on the heels of this week’s Everyday Etiquette, that we focus our Signature Style Series on someone born to entertain… and help you entertain! Roxy Owens of Society Social is just that person. Her colorful flair and innovative way of transforming a regular party to a must-attend event is truly remarkable. Let’s see what she has to say about her own signature style.

SS_081716-51

EMc: How do you carry your signature style into all aspects of your life be it home decor, entertaining, or fashion?

RO: At Society Social we often say Decorate to Entertain! I’m always inspired by a good party and creating a place you can share with your favorites. This playful spirit lends itself to easy, fun, and colorful style whether it’s in furniture or fashion or in the parties I host!

EMc: What is your personal definition of “signature style”?

RO: When people can look at something completely random and say, “That is so YOU!” You know you’ve made an impression and been true to your tastes!

IMG_4105

EMc: Give us three words to describe you.

RO: This is always so hard so I’m asking my brother who I’m currently on a job site with. He says, “driven, ambitious, and caring!”

EMc: What are three of your most prized pieces that you think fully represent your signature style? This could be a piece of furniture, jewelry, art, etc.

RO: 1) Our Society Social bar cart and tassel-y sofa, or in other words furniture that is playful yet polished! 2) The beautiful Chinoiserie panels “Peony Garden” that hang above our sofa in my favorite colors of blush, lavender, greens and blue. Chinoiserie forever! 3) A vintage rattan raffia clutch adorned with a chic gold clasp that hails from my mother’s collection– it’s like SS in a purse!

EMc: Why do these photos show your signature style?

LS: I had this big aha moment when I was around 35 that everything I loved style-wise had some connection with food. Color, texture, feeling, memory….it always came back to food. When I describe something I naturally go to food. “You know, like the color of the top of a strawberry before it’s fully ripe…that pale green. THAT’S the color of vintage velvet on my throw pillows.” 

Master Bedroom (photo by Cedric Smith) Mix of vintage and modern with a touch of whimsy

EMc: What aspects really tell us who you are?

LS: The image Cedric Smith took of me with my kewpie topped cake kind of says everything about my style. I have on a custom made and very simple button down short sleeve oxford, an amazing and whimsical skirt with a print called Babies on Fire from designer Brooke Atwood and the chicest work shoes EVER from CAT (yes, the tractor people). Sure I could have just worn the outfit…but I felt like one of those kewpie dolls was so full of bravado, it needed to climb up to the top of a cake.

EMc: How do you carry your signature style into all aspects of your life be it home decor, entertaining, or fashion?

LS: My style is food-inspired, but it’s also a tomboy chic and homespun chic kind of style. I like items that tell a story AND are comforting and comfortable. The “story” may be about the coolest new designer I’m crushing on or the provenance of the piece, but there is always a relaxed feeling and happy story somewhere.

EMc: Give us three words to describe you. Why did you choose these three words?

LS: Slightly off color.

EMc: What are three of your most prized pieces that you think fully represent your signature style? This could be a piece of furniture, jewelry, art, etc.

LS: The Pindler and Pindler velvet covered Barcelona day bed in my living room: Because it is the yummiest raspberry color ever, so chic and makes for the best extra bed for guests.

The simple white ceramic plate my hog-farming grandmother, Lula Mae, used to serve bacon on each morning: Because I adored my grandmother and this platter has history and love in every chip.

The most gorgeous pair of milk chocolate leather Billy Reid monk strap oxfords: Because they are so chic, well made and comfortable (I’ve had them resoled 3 times).

EMc: What is your best tip to encourage others to find and develop their own signature style?

LS: Stay off Pinterest for a few months.

One of our favorite things to do is admire fabulous signature style, as you know. This is why we are so thrilled to announce the return of our Signature Style Series! To kick off the return of this fabulous foray into the most fashionable friends we have, we want to introduce you to Sarah Tucker. She is pure light and brightness from the moment you click onto her blog. We can’t wait for you to learn who she is, and get excited to continue to follow along with her life.

Emily McCarthy: How do you carry your signature style into all aspects of your life be it home decor, entertaining, or fashion?

Sarah Tucker: I love all things tassels, mixed metals, fun patterns … but I’m very classic too.  I’m that way with my choices in the home, what I wear, and how I entertain.  It’s nice to have some fun and surprising element, always!

EMc: What is your personal definition of “signature style”?

ST: Whatever you are naturally drawn toward – that’s your signature style.  I rarely care if something looks ridiculous to someone, to me it works!

2A6A6407-900x600-1 2A6A6423-900x1323

EMc: Give us three words to describe you. Why did you choose these three words?

ST:

laid back – I don’t always feel this way but it’s what most of my friends keep telling me I am.  I also think this carries from my attitude to my style. I don’t like anything being too fussy.  But maybe that is because I have two boys (:

empathetic – I am extremely empathetic.  I feel things very deeply, and I tend to have a ton of compassion for people and their situations.

silly – my best self is a bit silly – with my family, my children, and my friends.  Life should be fun.

EMc: What are three of your most prized pieces that you think fully represent your signature style? This could be a piece of furniture, jewelry, art, etc.

ST:

chinoiserie – I have so many ginger jars and blue and white chinoiserie vases.  My mother always collected them and that obsession has carried over to me.  Never too many!

my parents vows  – I have the original typed up piece of paper of their vows framed.

photos – from our wedding photos to us becoming a family of three and now four.  Our photos all over our walls remind me of my priorities always.

IMG_9957-900x1350

EMc: What is your best tip to encourage others to find and develop their own signature style?

ST: I don’t know why I like what I like, but I don’t fight it!  I don’t try to talk myself out of it just because it’s not trendy or may be odd to someone else.  And you shouldn’t either.

We are all so different and unique, and I love seeing that celebrated by everyone’s choices in their homes, through entertaining, and fashion choices.

As you know, whenever something special comes along that we can’t take our eyes off of here at Emily McCarthy Studio… we just have to tell you about it. In fact, it would be unfair to keep it to ourselves! You know that when we are looking for decor and/or furniture pieces – we need something with true character. We need things that speak to us from a different time, a different artistic period, or even a different nod to signature style. This is exactly what we’ve found at The HighBoy!

As a curated marketplace, it’s truly a work of art they’ve created even as a showroom. From fine jewelry to antique furniture and elaborate candelabras – you know that nothing you can get from The High Boy will be replicated in anyone else’s home. What could be better than showing off your signature style with absolute confidence that it’ll never be duplicated?

Emily was able to find so many fabulous finds, but her favorites to style were a set of leopard print arm chairs, a tortoise desk, and a lucite side table (you know how much we love lucite!). Emily wanted to take these pieces and allow each one to shine. The easy thing was, they were already so high end and special, there was no need to find a way to “highlight” them so to speak. Each piece from The HighBoy has its own personality, and it’s honestly thrilling to watch them come to life in your own home.

The tortoise desk was an obvious piece of eye candy that we knew would be the perfect asset to our workspace. It lends itself to all colors and especially, our favorite, gold! We also added one of our favorite trinkets, a brass elephant to bring in some signature style. It’s already the perfect backdrop to write all of our thank you notes and special letters.

Screen Shot 2016-07-22 at 7.38.54 AM

To create a little nook in one of our favorite rooms, these vintage leopard print armchairs were an absolute MUST on every level. Though we believe leopard is truly a neutral, it was a great idea to pair it with the lucite side table so that we could keep it modern and interesting. Add an Emily McCarthy Cocktail Candle on top, gold applique lumbar pillow with your custom monogram, and one of our monogrammed herringbone blankets for an even more elevated appeal.

Screen Shot 2016-07-22 at 7.38.29 AM

Honestly, we’re so excited to see what else we can find in this high end marketplace. It’s a designer’s dream! Even if you aren’t a designer, you’ll feel like one when you can browse the upscale, the elegant, and the unique items that The HighBoy has to offer. Let us know how you style your one-of-a-kind pieces!

Happy decorating!

Wearing a tie every day can be boring, but not when you’re working with what we’ve got.. and what we’ve found. Our tie clips make a statement, and on the right tie they can elevate anyone from associate to CEO (no matter what the business card may say). Imagine how they would pair with our brand new menswear crush, Mill City Fineries, for example. Mill City Fineries has all of the Southern charm and class that a true gentleman needs, yet it hails from the midwest.
