Emily McCarthy: How do you carry your signature style into all aspects of your life be it home decor, entertaining, or fashion?

Sarah Tucker: I love all things tassels, mixed metals, fun patterns … but I’m very classic too.  I’m that way with my choices in the home, what I wear, and how I entertain.  It’s nice to have some fun and surprising element, always!

EMc: What is your personal definition of “signature style”?

ST: Whatever you are naturally drawn toward – that’s your signature style.  I rarely care if something looks ridiculous to someone, to me it works!

2A6A6407-900x600-1 2A6A6423-900x1323

EMc: Give us three words to describe you. Why did you choose these three words?

ST:

laid back – I don’t always feel this way but it’s what most of my friends keep telling me I am.  I also think this carries from my attitude to my style. I don’t like anything being too fussy.  But maybe that is because I have two boys (:

empathetic – I am extremely empathetic.  I feel things very deeply, and I tend to have a ton of compassion for people and their situations.

silly – my best self is a bit silly – with my family, my children, and my friends.  Life should be fun.

2A6A6446-900x1293 2A6A6460-900x1350

EMc: What are three of your most prized pieces that you think fully represent your signature style? This could be a piece of furniture, jewelry, art, etc.

ST:

chinoiserie – I have so many ginger jars and blue and white chinoiserie vases.  My mother always collected them and that obsession has carried over to me.  Never too many!

my parents vows  – I have the original typed up piece of paper of their vows framed.

photos – from our wedding photos to us becoming a family of three and now four.  Our photos all over our walls remind me of my priorities always.

IMG_9957-900x1350

EMc: What is your best tip to encourage others to find and develop their own signature style?

ST: I don’t know why I like what I like, but I don’t fight it!  I don’t try to talk myself out of it just because it’s not trendy or may be odd to someone else.  And you shouldn’t either.

We are all so different and unique, and I love seeing that celebrated by everyone’s choices in their homes, through entertaining, and fashion choices.

As you know, whenever something special comes along that we can’t take our eyes off of here at Emily McCarthy Studio… we just have to tell you about it. In fact, it would be unfair to keep it to ourselves! You know that when we are looking for decor and/or furniture pieces – we need something with true character. We need things that speak to us from a different time, a different artistic period, or even a different nod to signature style. This is exactly what we’ve found at The HighBoy!

As a curated marketplace, it’s truly a work of art they’ve created even as a showroom. From fine jewelry to antique furniture and elaborate candelabras – you know that nothing you can get from The High Boy will be replicated in anyone else’s home. What could be better than showing off your signature style with absolute confidence that it’ll never be duplicated?

Emily was able to find so many fabulous finds, but her favorites to style were a set of leopard print arm chairs, a tortoise desk, and a lucite side table (you know how much we love lucite!). Emily wanted to take these pieces and allow each one to shine. The easy thing was, they were already so high end and special, there was no need to find a way to “highlight” them so to speak. Each piece from The HighBoy has its own personality, and it’s honestly thrilling to watch them come to life in your own home.

The tortoise desk was an obvious piece of eye candy that we knew would be the perfect asset to our workspace. It lends itself to all colors and especially, our favorite, gold! We also added one of our favorite trinkets, a brass elephant to bring in some signature style. It’s already the perfect backdrop to write all of our thank you notes and special letters.

Screen Shot 2016-07-22 at 7.38.54 AM

To create a little nook in one of our favorite rooms, these vintage leopard print armchairs were an absolute MUST on every level. Though we believe leopard is truly a neutral, it was a great idea to pair it with the lucite side table so that we could keep it modern and interesting. Add an Emily McCarthy Cocktail Candle on top, gold applique lumbar pillow with your custom monogram, and one of our monogrammed herringbone blankets for an even more elevated appeal.

Screen Shot 2016-07-22 at 7.38.29 AM

Honestly, we’re so excited to see what else we can find in this high end marketplace. It’s a designer’s dream! Even if you aren’t a designer, you’ll feel like one when you can browse the upscale, the elegant, and the unique items that The HighBoy has to offer. Let us know how you style your one-of-a-kind pieces!

Happy decorating!

Wearing a tie every day can be boring, but not when you’re working with what we’ve got.. and what we’ve found. Our tie clips make a statement, and on the right tie they can elevate anyone from associate to CEO (no matter what the business card may say). Imagine how they would pair with our brand new menswear crush, Mill City Fineries, for example. Mill City Fineries has all of the Southern charm and class that a true gentleman needs, yet it hails from the midwest.

Put one of these brass beauties on a necktie made for today’s man and described as, “Not skinny. Not wide. Simply a great modern cut.” You don’t have to stop at neckties, though. (Well, maybe for the clip.) They also offer pocket squares, handmade bowties, and bespoke wedding accessories. (How could we maintain our coastal devotion without a shout out to the bowtie?) Click here to be brought right to their website. While you’re shopping for Father’s Day you can also check off the list of “What to Wear” for the man in your life during wedding season. We think that’s just perfect, don’t you?

Part of the reason we love what we do here at the Emily McCarthy Shoppe so much is because we get to see others’ signature style come to life utilizing things we’ve developed and created. Gina Julian is a perfect example. All of the swooning will commence as soon as you click on this link to her blog: here.

First of all, can we mention how obsessed we are with the transformation of the office? Both are oozing with signature, clean yet daring, style – and they both show how multifaceted one person can be. The depth of style almost gives us chills, no joke!

As she’ll mention on the blog, she needed an update to her personal office. It received so much natural light, she wanted to brighten it up. The black screams “drama” and definitely made a clear statement.

GinaJulianBlackOffice

When looking for a major transformation, it’s important to have a point of beginning. Gina chose our very own Multi Spot Cheetah wallpaper made exclusively by Cotton and Quill. (Available here) As we contain our squeals to have been utilized as inspiration, we love the direction she took. Her original mock-up had us dying to see more!

GinaJulianInspiration

The pop of color on the ceiling was a brilliant move on her part. It tied the room together without being overpowering. We also love that she chose a simple, clean line light fixture to remain a focal point. Gold just goes with everything, doesn’t it? The final product proves that a picture is worth (easily) 1,000 words.

GinaJulianFinal

From dark, sexy, and dramatic to light, fun, and young. How have you used Emily McCarthy designs to change your space? We’d adore to see it!

A fabulous fete is incomplete without a guest of honor, and a guest of honor was present indeed! Mary McDonald, award winning Los Angeles based interior designer, was in town for a book signing at Georgia Furniture and Interiors and celebrating a fabulous collaboration with Chaddock furniture. Her designs were divine, and it’s impossible not to find at least 5 pieces that you must have in your home. You may recognize Mary from her part in Bravo TV’s “Million Dollar Decorators” or “Property Envy.”

Meeting Mary was such an exciting event, she’s vibrant and energetic – just like her designs. The backdrop of Georgia Furniture and Interiors was buzzing over the new addition of Chaddock Home furniture to their repertoire of high end brands. With the partnership so fresh of Mary McDonald creating exclusive looks for Chaddock Home, a book signing was the cherry on top of the sundae. Mary is such a wealth of talent, it was certainly a treat.

Emily was able to sit down with Mary and have a one-on-one. The two of them found it easy to talk at a peer to peer level sharing personal goals, aspirations, and understanding one another’s passion for branding a home and letting personal style shine in all aspects of life.

We can’t wait until Mary makes a trip back to Savannah, and we’re even more excited to see what she comes up with next. Stay tuned on the blog as we hope to feature her soon on our own Signature Style Series.

Prepare to swoon in all the best ways as you meet Alex, aka Teggy French. She channels retro glamour on a level that is almost impossible to achieve. To look at her pictures transports you to a world where style is vibrant and vivacious.

IMG_7332

EMc: Why do these photos show your signature style?
TF: These photos show my signature style because they are preppy meets 1960s Palm Beach.  I am all for a classic look, but I try to always incorporate something fun to give the outfit an added twist.

EMc: What aspects really tell us who you are?
TF: I would say that these photos show my love of fashion, both current and past, and represent that I march to my own drum.  I love to have fun, I’m a little quirky, but I take fashion VERY seriously 🙂

IMG_5815

IMG_5778

EMc: How do you carry your signature style into all aspects of your life be it home decor, entertaining, or fashion?
TF: I try to have fun in all aspects of my life. I live in an old farmhouse that was renovated in 2003 so it would be very easy to conform to the style of the home, but that just wouldn’t be me.  We moved in two years ago, and slowly but surely I am adding touches of my love of Southern style while still staying true to the original charm of the home.  My office is totally inspired by Palm Beach, and of course that’s my favorite room to spend time in!  When I entertain it is very similar to my fashion sense–I go all out while still maintaining comfort.  If you’re inviting people into your home I believe in making everything perfect, but not to the point where you drive yourself crazy or make people feel they have have walked into stuffy Buffy’s house. In order to achieve this I will throw a dinner party with a theme such as 1960s Palm Beach (surprise, right?!).  It gives people a chance to dress up, and you’re laughing from the moment you walk in the door.  I also think a dinner game with a prize makes for lots of laughs.  For my husband’s birthday we made a quiz based on “The Preppy Handbook” to determine who was the preppiest guest.  It’s all about the twist!

IMG_6125

EMc: What is your personal definition of “signature style”?
TF: Preppy with a Twist…shaken, not stirred

IMG_7256

EMc: Give us three words to describe you. Why did you choose these three words?
TF: Life is about evolving, but the words I would choose at this moment in my life would be fun, loyal, and dedicated.  I choose these words because I have a strong belief that life is too short to not have a good time. If you are in my life I will always do my best to give you my all and I am dedicated to whatever I set my mind to…oh, and I try to be fabulous while living out those qualities!

IMG_8433

EMc: What are three of your most prized pieces that you think fully represent your signature style? This could be a piece of furniture, jewelry, art, etc.
TF: The pieces that represent my signature style are my turbans, oversized sunglasses (Teggy French x Victory Optical will be coming out soon!) and the Slim Aarons photograph I have hanging in my office.

EMc: What is your best tip to encourage others to find and develop their own signature style?
TF: What I have found is that you have trust your own instincts and not care about what others think.  If you feel good then that confidence will shine through.  Do I look a little “different” wearing a turban around New Jersey?  I probably do to a lot of people, but I don’t mind because I am who I am…and that’s the best style you can have!

Now that you’re sufficiently immersed in a major style crush, we invite you to follow along with Alex as she channels her unique style everywhere she goes.

This signature style post is close to home, because here at the shoppe we were lucky enough to help Beth and Danielle display their signature style through their branding. Beth and Danielle are the two creative powerhouses behind Palm Beach Lately, a lifestyle brand and blog based out of – you guessed it – Florida. We hope you enjoy learning about these two beauties as much as we did!

bethanddanielle

EMc: Why do these photos show your signature style? What aspects really tell us who you are?
PBL: Our products are a great representation of how we like to entertain. We often host and use the products we created and sell in our online shop from our pillows to cutting boards, cups and napkins. Danielle and I love working which each other and I think it shows in our photoshoots. It’s not just a job to us, we really enjoy what we do and the time we get to spend together.

EMc: How do you carry your signature style into all aspects of your life be it home decor, entertaining, or fashion?
PBL: Our new branding that Emily created is the best representation of not only our company, but also us. We love pink, mint, black and gold and you can see those colors weaved through both of our homes. We are Florida girls and love Palm Beach, pineapples and flamingos.

DSC_0003

EMc: What is your personal definition of “signature style”?
PBL: Signature style is something that is the best representation of yourself.

Palm-Beach-West-Elm-8

EMc: Give us three words to describe you. Why did you choose these three words?

PBL:
Beth: 1) Determined. When I have a goal, I don’t stop until I get there. 2)Outgoing. I love people and have since I was little. I love getting to know people and their stories. I also enjoy mentoring younger girls with business and life advice. 3) Optimistic. In life and business I am thankful to see the bright side.

Danielle: 1) Artistic. I am artistic at heart and thrive on creatively expressing myself through fashion, home and hobbies. This gene runs in our family and I love passing down what I have learned from my Grandma and Mom to my own daughters. 2) Organized. I adore practical spaces, systems, calendars and anything else that simplifies, makes life easier and creates a calm, peaceful space. I can often be found organizing areas of our home to better fit our needs and donating old items to charity. 3) Authentic. I really believe in being true to myself and creating a life that is unique to my skills, traits and experiences. In today’s world it’s easier than ever to copy others, so it’s very important to put your own spin and style on all of the inspiration that is available out there.

EMc: What are three of your most prized pieces that you think fully represent your signature style? This could be a piece of furniture, jewelry, art, etc.
Beth: 1) Engagement ring – It’s a representation of our love and loyalty. 2) Louboutins – They were a 30th birthday gift from my husband and are sophisticated yet sexy. 3) Dining Room table – It was one of our first purchases for our new house and reflects my love for combining natural elements with modern style.

Danielle: 1) Pictures/Gallery wall – Over the past several years, we have captured life’s really special moments in beautiful photos. The pictures from our wedding and of our growing family are priceless to us, and I love the way we created a gallery wall in our living room around the tv. It was a risky project, but my husband did a wonderful job getting it just right!   2) Wedding dress – There is something so magical about a wedding dress to me. It tells a whole love story and is one of the most defining style pieces a woman will wear. I love holding on to my dress and dreaming about showing it to our girls one day! 3) Map necklace – I love, love, love Three Jane and her amazing Map Necklaces now sold at A.Joffe. I chose the map/address of our first Palm Beach Lately office to always remember where and how it all began.

Palm-Beach-West-Elm-7

EMc: What is your best tip to encourage others to find and develop their own signature style?
PBL: I think Pinterest is a great way to find your style. When I was decorating our home and would go back to look at what I pinned, I started to see consistency in what I loved – monochromatic with pops of color.

DSC_9882

Pops of color, attention to detail, and coastal living. We couldn’t love this duo more! Thank you so much, Beth and Danielle, for allowing us to feature you on our Signature Style series.

Sometimes, you get to work with one of your idols. This was the case when it came to the fabulous Katie Kime. It felt like happy hour the second she agreed to be a part of our signature style series. Grab a cocktail and get excited, we present a true style crush – Katie Kime!

Katie1

IMG_2523.1

EMc: Why do these photos show your signature style? What aspects really tell us who you are?
KK: Prints and Color. That’s kind of what we’re known for, obsessed with and driven by. I love to pair unexpected prints together as well as bold, unexpected colors together.

EMc: What is your personal definition of “signature style”?
KK: I think signature style is something you’ve really come up with on your own and consistently carry throughout your wardrobe, house or other designs. I once dated a guy who said “every time I see you have a piece of neon on”… I had never noticed it but sure enough that was part of my signature and has continued to be. A bright pop of color always seems to find it’s place into our store, my home and wardrobe. But others may do the same thing with white tees or a neutral palette…

IMG_8371.1

IMG_6812.1

EMc: Give us three words to describe you. Why did you choose these three words?
KK: Bright. Bold. Feminine. I really feel that those describe me personally and professionally as well as theme I generally design by. Take for instance our maxi skirt. I custom design the bright fabrics we use to make them and they’re often more modern prints. But I love adding a high cinched waist to their design that’s also feminine and reminiscent of women not just today but through the ages.

EMc: What are three of your most prized pieces that you think fully represent your signature style?
KK: Tassel earrings, our brass and lucite bar cart (handmade here in Austin, TX), and our color block gracie cape.

IMG_8507.1

EMc: What is your best tip to encourage others to find and develop their own signature style?
KK: I think it would be trust your gut. I think a lot of people, especially those maybe not particularly inclined to trust themselves from a design sense, don’t realize they probably already know what their signature style is. If you’re always drawn to animal print, find a way to make that a part of your signature. If black and white just totally do it for you, trust it and go with it. I think often people really know intuitively what their style is but trusting themselves to go with it and put it out there is the bigger battle.

This week, we had the joy of getting to know more about Kimberly Whitman for our readers. She’s been a household name around the studio ever since we were able to lend our monograms to her new book, Monograms for the Home. Another name we can call her is “friend”. We’re positive you will be able to tell from this short interview what a truly warm, inviting, and happy presence she has.

_K1A9697

FD Portraits9381

EMc: How do you carry your signature style into all aspects of your life be it home decor, entertaining, or fashion?

KW: I just choose what I like when I’m faced with a choice! I figure that if it resonates with me, tells a story, or makes me smile, it suits my style!

KSW Dinner Party August 19 2015-181
EMc: What is your personal definition of “signature style”?

KW:When I think of some of my most stylish friends, I must say that they are hard to box in. In other words, they are always evolving and open to new things and new looks. I like that! To have signature style, you have to have curiosity about life and design and be driven to discover what you like.

Screen Shot 2014-06-20 at 9.50.28 AM
EMc: Give us three words to describe you. Why did you choose these three words?

KW: Classic, Joyous, Colorful? I don’t know! That is so tough. What three words would you use for me? I’m so curious, after sharing these photos, etc, what you would say!

EMc: You know, Kimberly, after reveling in all the gorgeous photos you sent to us and reading your answers… we would absolutely use the words vanguard, whimsical, and joyous.

JR_1101a19-KS-Whitman_11-14
EMc: What are three of your most prized pieces that you think fully represent your signature style? This could be a piece of furniture, jewelry, art, etc.

KW: Oh gosh – that is so hard! I love “stuff” and cherish the memories that come along with so many of my belongings. One of them is certainly my engagement ring. It was my husband’s great grandmothers ring. All of the ladies in his life wore it and that means so much to me. It is a sapphire (colorful and blue!), an heirloom, and a very classic and lady like style. I adore it and I think it completely suits me even though it wasn’t made for me! I also love the bracelet that features the dates my children were born and my monogram by Hannah Fergeson. I wore it in my author photo for my new book, Monograms for the Home. I also cherish my son’s portrait by Stella Ehrich. She is so talented and did such a beautiful job capturing who he is. She spent time with us and got to know him before she started painting him and the final painting is just magical because he really shines through! The best part, besides our new friendship with Stella, is that she even painted his toes that cross over – just like my father’s toes do!

Schlegel Kitchen
EMc: What is your best tip to encourage others to find and develop their own signature style?

KW: Explore and try new things! Mix and match things that resonate with you. Edit like crazy and you will probably find that the things that stay around you all have a common thread.
