Part of being a lifestyle brand is engaging with other beautiful brands that walk hand in hand with our elegant, coastal style. We know that a home is comprised of pieces from many different places, and its important to us that our product will not just stand out from the rest – but we want to make sure our pieces compliment the rest as well. We have found that the coastal inspirations and whimsy of Spartina 449 are truly complimentary to the Emily McCarthy style.

Do you love Emily’s scarf in the very first photo? It’s darling and it’s even more precious because it’s a scarf with the map of Savannah on it. Click either of the images above to make sure it’s in your wardrobe!

We hosted a sip and shop event at Spartina 449’s downtown Savannah location at the end of October and had such a fun experience. The baubles, the totes, the devotion to seaside life – it truly aligns itself with all of our favorite things! How gorgeous is this store?

Emily McCarthy + Spartina 449

We see the girl with signature style who can’t get enough of a great classic, brown cross body bag. Inside it she has a journal to keep all of her fresh and exciting ideas about her passion. The Spartina 449 Savannah map journal tugs at our heart strings, because it’s so important to keep home close to you no matter where you are. She never leaves the home without a bit of sparkle and a bit of sass. Spot cheetah around her neck is a must!

She’s also the kind to have her folded notes closeby so that no matter what adventure she’s on, she’s sending love to those who fill her heart the most.

What else do you love from Spartina 449?

Prepare to swoon in all the best ways as you meet Alex, aka Teggy French. She channels retro glamour on a level that is almost impossible to achieve. To look at her pictures transports you to a world where style is vibrant and vivacious.

IMG_7332

EMc: Why do these photos show your signature style?
TF: These photos show my signature style because they are preppy meets 1960s Palm Beach.  I am all for a classic look, but I try to always incorporate something fun to give the outfit an added twist.

EMc: What aspects really tell us who you are?
TF: I would say that these photos show my love of fashion, both current and past, and represent that I march to my own drum.  I love to have fun, I’m a little quirky, but I take fashion VERY seriously 🙂

IMG_5815

IMG_5778

EMc: How do you carry your signature style into all aspects of your life be it home decor, entertaining, or fashion?
TF: I try to have fun in all aspects of my life. I live in an old farmhouse that was renovated in 2003 so it would be very easy to conform to the style of the home, but that just wouldn’t be me.  We moved in two years ago, and slowly but surely I am adding touches of my love of Southern style while still staying true to the original charm of the home.  My office is totally inspired by Palm Beach, and of course that’s my favorite room to spend time in!  When I entertain it is very similar to my fashion sense–I go all out while still maintaining comfort.  If you’re inviting people into your home I believe in making everything perfect, but not to the point where you drive yourself crazy or make people feel they have have walked into stuffy Buffy’s house. In order to achieve this I will throw a dinner party with a theme such as 1960s Palm Beach (surprise, right?!).  It gives people a chance to dress up, and you’re laughing from the moment you walk in the door.  I also think a dinner game with a prize makes for lots of laughs.  For my husband’s birthday we made a quiz based on “The Preppy Handbook” to determine who was the preppiest guest.  It’s all about the twist!

IMG_6125

EMc: What is your personal definition of “signature style”?
TF: Preppy with a Twist…shaken, not stirred

IMG_7256

EMc: Give us three words to describe you. Why did you choose these three words?
TF: Life is about evolving, but the words I would choose at this moment in my life would be fun, loyal, and dedicated.  I choose these words because I have a strong belief that life is too short to not have a good time. If you are in my life I will always do my best to give you my all and I am dedicated to whatever I set my mind to…oh, and I try to be fabulous while living out those qualities!

IMG_8433

EMc: What are three of your most prized pieces that you think fully represent your signature style? This could be a piece of furniture, jewelry, art, etc.
TF: The pieces that represent my signature style are my turbans, oversized sunglasses (Teggy French x Victory Optical will be coming out soon!) and the Slim Aarons photograph I have hanging in my office.

EMc: What is your best tip to encourage others to find and develop their own signature style?
TF: What I have found is that you have trust your own instincts and not care about what others think.  If you feel good then that confidence will shine through.  Do I look a little “different” wearing a turban around New Jersey?  I probably do to a lot of people, but I don’t mind because I am who I am…and that’s the best style you can have!

The great part about living in The South is that it takes the weather a while to catch on to the changing of the seasons allowing us to soak up extra sun. The bad part is that we are SO ready to pull out the scarves already! Thankfully, the nip in the air has been detected. This year, the Emily McCarthy shoppe made room for some new pieces to be done in our signature pattens.

Choose between silk blend rectangular or square scarves. Any of these options boasts yet another splash of elegance that you can use to dress up (or dress down) any ensemble. Click here to see the selection in the shoppe.

This signature style post is close to home, because here at the shoppe we were lucky enough to help Beth and Danielle display their signature style through their branding. Beth and Danielle are the two creative powerhouses behind Palm Beach Lately, a lifestyle brand and blog based out of – you guessed it – Florida. We hope you enjoy learning about these two beauties as much as we did!

EMc: Why do these photos show your signature style? What aspects really tell us who you are?
PBL: Our products are a great representation of how we like to entertain. We often host and use the products we created and sell in our online shop from our pillows to cutting boards, cups and napkins. Danielle and I love working which each other and I think it shows in our photoshoots. It’s not just a job to us, we really enjoy what we do and the time we get to spend together.

EMc: How do you carry your signature style into all aspects of your life be it home decor, entertaining, or fashion?
PBL: Our new branding that Emily created is the best representation of not only our company, but also us. We love pink, mint, black and gold and you can see those colors weaved through both of our homes. We are Florida girls and love Palm Beach, pineapples and flamingos.

EMc: What is your personal definition of “signature style”?
PBL: Signature style is something that is the best representation of yourself.

Palm-Beach-West-Elm-8

EMc: Give us three words to describe you. Why did you choose these three words?

PBL:
Beth: 1) Determined. When I have a goal, I don’t stop until I get there. 2)Outgoing. I love people and have since I was little. I love getting to know people and their stories. I also enjoy mentoring younger girls with business and life advice. 3) Optimistic. In life and business I am thankful to see the bright side.

Danielle: 1) Artistic. I am artistic at heart and thrive on creatively expressing myself through fashion, home and hobbies. This gene runs in our family and I love passing down what I have learned from my Grandma and Mom to my own daughters. 2) Organized. I adore practical spaces, systems, calendars and anything else that simplifies, makes life easier and creates a calm, peaceful space. I can often be found organizing areas of our home to better fit our needs and donating old items to charity. 3) Authentic. I really believe in being true to myself and creating a life that is unique to my skills, traits and experiences. In today’s world it’s easier than ever to copy others, so it’s very important to put your own spin and style on all of the inspiration that is available out there.

EMc: What are three of your most prized pieces that you think fully represent your signature style? This could be a piece of furniture, jewelry, art, etc.
Beth: 1) Engagement ring – It’s a representation of our love and loyalty. 2) Louboutins – They were a 30th birthday gift from my husband and are sophisticated yet sexy. 3) Dining Room table – It was one of our first purchases for our new house and reflects my love for combining natural elements with modern style.

Danielle: 1) Pictures/Gallery wall – Over the past several years, we have captured life’s really special moments in beautiful photos. The pictures from our wedding and of our growing family are priceless to us, and I love the way we created a gallery wall in our living room around the tv. It was a risky project, but my husband did a wonderful job getting it just right!   2) Wedding dress – There is something so magical about a wedding dress to me. It tells a whole love story and is one of the most defining style pieces a woman will wear. I love holding on to my dress and dreaming about showing it to our girls one day! 3) Map necklace – I love, love, love Three Jane and her amazing Map Necklaces now sold at A.Joffe. I chose the map/address of our first Palm Beach Lately office to always remember where and how it all began.

Palm-Beach-West-Elm-7

EMc: What is your best tip to encourage others to find and develop their own signature style?
PBL: I think Pinterest is a great way to find your style. When I was decorating our home and would go back to look at what I pinned, I started to see consistency in what I loved – monochromatic with pops of color.

Pops of color, attention to detail, and coastal living. We couldn’t love this duo more! Thank you so much, Beth and Danielle, for allowing us to feature you on our Signature Style series.

Sometimes, you get to work with one of your idols. This was the case when it came to the fabulous Katie Kime. It felt like happy hour the second she agreed to be a part of our signature style series. Grab a cocktail and get excited, we present a true style crush – Katie Kime!

IMG_2523.1

EMc: Why do these photos show your signature style? What aspects really tell us who you are?
KK: Prints and Color. That’s kind of what we’re known for, obsessed with and driven by. I love to pair unexpected prints together as well as bold, unexpected colors together.

EMc: What is your personal definition of “signature style”?
KK: I think signature style is something you’ve really come up with on your own and consistently carry throughout your wardrobe, house or other designs. I once dated a guy who said “every time I see you have a piece of neon on”… I had never noticed it but sure enough that was part of my signature and has continued to be. A bright pop of color always seems to find it’s place into our store, my home and wardrobe. But others may do the same thing with white tees or a neutral palette…

IMG_8371.1

IMG_6812.1

EMc: Give us three words to describe you. Why did you choose these three words?
KK: Bright. Bold. Feminine. I really feel that those describe me personally and professionally as well as theme I generally design by. Take for instance our maxi skirt. I custom design the bright fabrics we use to make them and they’re often more modern prints. But I love adding a high cinched waist to their design that’s also feminine and reminiscent of women not just today but through the ages.

EMc: What are three of your most prized pieces that you think fully represent your signature style?
KK: Tassel earrings, our brass and lucite bar cart (handmade here in Austin, TX), and our color block gracie cape.

IMG_8507.1

EMc: What is your best tip to encourage others to find and develop their own signature style?
KK: I think it would be trust your gut. I think a lot of people, especially those maybe not particularly inclined to trust themselves from a design sense, don’t realize they probably already know what their signature style is. If you’re always drawn to animal print, find a way to make that a part of your signature. If black and white just totally do it for you, trust it and go with it. I think often people really know intuitively what their style is but trusting themselves to go with it and put it out there is the bigger battle.

This week, we had the joy of getting to know more about Kimberly Whitman for our readers. She’s been a household name around the studio ever since we were able to lend our monograms to her new book, Monograms for the Home. Another name we can call her is “friend”. We’re positive you will be able to tell from this short interview what a truly warm, inviting, and happy presence she has.

EMc: How do you carry your signature style into all aspects of your life be it home decor, entertaining, or fashion?

KW: I just choose what I like when I’m faced with a choice! I figure that if it resonates with me, tells a story, or makes me smile, it suits my style!

KSW Dinner Party August 19 2015-181
EMc: What is your personal definition of “signature style”?

KW:When I think of some of my most stylish friends, I must say that they are hard to box in. In other words, they are always evolving and open to new things and new looks. I like that! To have signature style, you have to have curiosity about life and design and be driven to discover what you like.

Screen Shot 2014-06-20 at 9.50.28 AM
EMc: Give us three words to describe you. Why did you choose these three words?

KW: Classic, Joyous, Colorful? I don’t know! That is so tough. What three words would you use for me? I’m so curious, after sharing these photos, etc, what you would say!

EMc: You know, Kimberly, after reveling in all the gorgeous photos you sent to us and reading your answers… we would absolutely use the words vanguard, whimsical, and joyous.

EMc: What are three of your most prized pieces that you think fully represent your signature style? This could be a piece of furniture, jewelry, art, etc.

KW: Oh gosh – that is so hard! I love “stuff” and cherish the memories that come along with so many of my belongings. One of them is certainly my engagement ring. It was my husband’s great grandmothers ring. All of the ladies in his life wore it and that means so much to me. It is a sapphire (colorful and blue!), an heirloom, and a very classic and lady like style. I adore it and I think it completely suits me even though it wasn’t made for me! I also love the bracelet that features the dates my children were born and my monogram by Hannah Fergeson. I wore it in my author photo for my new book, Monograms for the Home. I also cherish my son’s portrait by Stella Ehrich. She is so talented and did such a beautiful job capturing who he is. She spent time with us and got to know him before she started painting him and the final painting is just magical because he really shines through! The best part, besides our new friendship with Stella, is that she even painted his toes that cross over – just like my father’s toes do!

EMc: What is your best tip to encourage others to find and develop their own signature style?

KW: Explore and try new things! Mix and match things that resonate with you. Edit like crazy and you will probably find that the things that stay around you all have a common thread.

One of my favorite spots around Savannah is the newly renovated Cohen’s Retreat! The building used to be a home for retired gents, then an Olympic training facility. Now, the doors have been reopened for a full restaurant, event space and retail shop.

Next up in our signature style series is Rachel Shingleton from Pencil Shavings Studio. Rachel is on a mission to “Banish the Beige” but installing pops of color into everything around her. We’ve fallen in love with her devotion to the bold. Here’s what Rachel has to say about her signature style.

PencilShavings7

EMc: Why do these photos show your signature style? What aspects really tell us who you are?
RS: My style is probably best describe my style as dressy casual. I want my things to get a lot of love and wear. So I might buy a pair of sequinned flats, but I’m going to wear them with everything from a cocktail dress to a pair of jeans and a tshirt. I don’t believe in saving things only for special occasions. I’m madly in love with color, pattern, and the way they interact with white (which is my neutral of choice) and I’m really interested in mixing and matching high and low items, both in interiors and in fashion.

EMc: How do you carry your signature style into all aspects of your life be it home decor, entertaining, or fashion?
RS: Color is a huge element of my signature style. In fashion, I like a pop of yellow (ha – could you tell from the inspiration pics?) be it in jewelry, a great bag, or shoes. And at home I’m having a major white moment – white paint is super inspiring to me right now, again, with pops of color through pillows, artwork, etc.

My goal at home is to create comfortable places for my kids to grow up in without sacrificing our own grown up sense of style. I think our interiors reflect that, along with a good dose of not taking ourselves too seriously. I want something that’s not too formal, but with a big dose of personality. I buy nice shoes, but I wear them hard. And likewise, I want to use my fine china for every day use because life’s too short not to use our nice things, you know? I’ve yet to do this often, if I’m being honest – but it drives me nuts to see it sitting in the cabinet without be loved daily.

PencilShavings6

PencilShavings8

EMc: What is your personal definition of “signature style”?
RS: Personal style to me is what makes me feel best at home with myself, be it through the clothes I wear or the things I surround myself with. It’s my own personality expressed visually.

EMc: Give us three words to describe you. Why did you choose these three words?
RS: Colorful, happy, fun: I’m naturally cheerful, and I get a lot of joy out of color, connecting with others, and doing fun things. I hope my kids remember me as this one day.

PencilShavings1

PencilShavings5

EMc: What are three of your most prized pieces that you think fully represent your signature style? This could be a piece of furniture, jewelry, art, etc.
RS: 1) Blue Prada handbag (a fab structured bag but in a great color that adds a little polish to basic outfits) 2) Green velvet tuxedo sofa that was from my Dad’s office. It’s currently needing a reupholstery job but I have big plans for it one day. The style is spot-on and transcends all trends. I adore that sofa. 3) My Suzy Landa delicate stacking diamond rings that my husband gave to me for our 10th anniversary. They’re so pretty and unusual, and the meaning behind them is everything to me. He’s a pretty amazing guy, my husband!
EMc: What is your best tip to encourage others to find and develop their own signature style?
RS: What do you gravitate to over and over again? There’s a reason you keep going back to it. Also look to things from your past with meaning associated to it. It’s hard for me to only pick three prized pieces; our home is filled with little things from my childhood or from my beloved grandmother’s home that were passed down to me. All these little layers and elements add up to signature style. At the end of the day, signature style is me feeling like my best self. So what is it about you that helps you feel your best?

A signature look is all in the details. We can’t get enough of the simplicity and elegance while sticking to a classic color scheme with a pop of sass. Leopard is our favorite neutral around here while black and gold are the perfect palette to build a look from home decor to fancy footwear.
